As a well-established and recognised industry group the Bendigo Regional Manufacturing Group (BRMG) operates with a strong sense of collaboration and referral.

City of Greater Bendigo

The City of Greater Bendigo established the BRMG in 2001, providing the opportunity for input into the strategic direction of the Council and guidance to staff working on industry initiatives.

Partners

Collaborations and partnerships have become increasingly important as Bendigo’s industries compete on a global scale and add value to the extensive resource-processing and training opportunities within various industry sectors.

As rapid advances in technology drive transformation in the industrial landscape, the BRMG are on the frontline of that change, working with innovators, researchers, education and technology providers, including:

Research partners

Central Victorian Advanced Manufacturing (CVAM)

CVAM is a Bendigo Fraunhofer initiative developed in partnership between the City of Greater Bendigo, La Trobe University and the BRMG to create high-value tech jobs and grow investment throughout the region via research projects.

Education partners

The BRMG has strong partnerships with academic bodies and trade associations, primarily to promote skills the manufacturing industry require and to establish an awareness around what job ready graduates look like. Working at all levels of education from Primary schools though to Universities our partners include:

Goldfields LLEN

The Goldfields LLEN is funded by the state government to improve education, training and employment options and outcomes for young people (10 – 19 years). BRMG provides workplace tours and supports the Young Ambassador program.

Deakin University

The BRMG has developed close ties with Deakin University, specifically Deakin’s School of Engineering to help boost local manufacturing.

La Trobe University

Offering courses in rural health and engineering the BRMG has a long history with La Trobe University, working on research partnerships in relation to food, agriculture, environment and digital technologies.

Bendigo Tech School

Delivering programming codesigned with industry and educators, Bendigo Tech School prepares secondary students for the future of work. BRMG ensures students are exposed to real-world problem solving by providing opportunities and projects.

Bendigo TAFE

Prepares students for work in local jobs, the BRMG is currently piloting the ‘Mates to Manager’ program.

Bendigo Education Plan

In 2018 the Victorian Department of Education and Training released a plan for transforming career education in government schools including a model of shared responsibility between schools, families, industry, TAFEs, Universities, and the broader community. The BRMG supports student outcomes by advising on career education programs, curriculum with workplace needs, and participating in Schools Industry Round Tables.

Other partnerships

As rapidly developing technologies and working models evolve the BRMG works with existing partners and actively recruits new partnerships to ensure the region develops a workforce with the necessary, diverse range of skills sets and capabilities required.

Programs & events

Passions and Pathways Program

Determined to link young people with jobs of the future, the BRMG were instrumental in the development of the Passions and Pathways Program, a unique partnership between the BRMG, Goldfields Local Learning and Employment Network (GLLEN), Primary Schools, the Economic Development Unit from the City of Greater Bendigo and a number of manufacturing industries and other business sectors. The project supports students from low socio-economic areas to connect the dots between school and the world of work by engaging year six students with local businesses in their workplace, showcasing the diverse job/career pathways that exist.

Regional Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (REAM) Skills Road Map

Part of the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership’s Regional Economic Growth Strategy, the partnership includes stakeholders from industry, education, and government working to address the skills and labour force shortages via the REAM Skills Road Map. The BRMG are proud to be part of the Project Control Group that supports and oversees the short and long-term deliverables supporting future workforce needs and skills in advanced manufacturing and engineering in the region.

Industry Education Forums

The group regularly attends education forums that target ‘career influencers in the education system’ as well as a broader audience.

Note: The group promote services, events and programs delivered by partners and our large network of third-party providers.
